SEND

In St. Malachy's, we believe every child is unique, valued, and capable of thriving. We are proud to offer a nurturing and inclusive environment where children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are supported to reach their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally.

👩‍🏫 Meet Our SENCo Team

  • Mrs Magee is our SENCo for children in Nursery to Primary 2. She works closely with families and staff to ensure our youngest learners receive the care and support they need from the very beginning of their school journey.
  • Mrs McGovern is our SENCo for children in Primary 3 to Primary 7. She provides tailored guidance and support for older pupils, helping them grow in confidence and independence as they progress through school.

Together, Mrs Magee and Mrs McGovern lead our SEND provision with compassion, expertise, and a deep commitment to every child’s wellbeing.

💛 How We Support Our SEND Pupils

We understand that children with SEND may face unique challenges, and we are here to walk alongside them every step of the way. Our approach is rooted in:

  • Early identification of needs through close observation and collaboration with families.
  • Personalised learning plans (PLPs) that reflect each child’s strengths, needs, and aspirations.
  • Inclusive teaching strategies that ensure all children can access the curriculum meaningfully.
  • Strong partnerships with external agencies and specialists to provide additional support when needed.
  • A nurturing environment where children feel safe, respected, and encouraged to be themselves.

We celebrate progress in all its forms and work hard to ensure every child feels a sense of belonging and pride in their achievements.

🤝 Working Together

We value the partnership between school and home. Parents and carers are key members of our SEND team, and we welcome open communication, shared decision-making, and regular updates to ensure the best outcomes for each child.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to our SENCo team, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We are here to help.
