🌟 Dyslexia Awareness Day 🌟

8th Oct 2025

Today at St. Malachy’s, we proudly celebrated Dyslexia Awareness Day — a day to raise awareness, celebrate strengths, and remind everyone that dyslexia is not a barrier to success.

Across the school, pupils took part in a “Famous People Hunt”, searching for well-known figures who have dyslexia. From actors and artists to scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs, our pupils were amazed to discover how many successful people live and thrive with dyslexia. We talked about how each person found their own way to shine — proving that dyslexia doesn’t hold anyone back from achieving their dreams.

Back in class, children explored the theme further through a range of activities. Some classes read social stories about what it feels like to have dyslexia and how friends can offer support. Others produced fact files on famous individuals such as Albert Einstein, Richard Branson, and Walt Disney, learning that people with dyslexia can be inventors, storytellers, leaders, and creative thinkers in every field imaginable.

Teachers and classroom assistants also shared resources and stories to help pupils understand that dyslexia is simply a different way of thinking and learning — often bringing with it incredible creativity, problem-solving skills, and imagination.

A big thank you to all our staff for helping to raise awareness and for ensuring that every child in our school feels valued, understood, and supported.

By highlighting these inspiring stories, we hope our pupils — and their families — see that having dyslexia does not define a person or limit their future. With understanding, encouragement, and the right support, everyone can achieve their full potential.
