Primary Four have been delving into the rich mythology of Slieve Gullion, learning all about the fascinating legends that surround our local mountain. The children were particularly captivated by the story of the Cailleach Béara, the powerful old woman of the mountains whose magic and mystery are woven through generations of Irish folklore. To bring the legend to life, the pupils created their own pastel sketches of the Cailleach Béara. They explored how artists use colour, shading and texture to show atmosphere and emotion, experimenting with stormy skies, swirling winds and dramatic mountain landscapes. The results were wonderfully imaginative, with each child putting their own unique stamp on this iconic character.
