Art Exhibition – Inspired by the Slieve Gullion Dolls’ House

This year’s art exhibition celebrated creativity, imagination, and our rich local heritage through the inspiring story of the Slieve Gullion Dolls’ House. Using the Doll House as our starting point, each class explored a different aspect of its history, producing original artwork through a wide range of techniques and materials.

Some classes drew inspiration from the extraordinary life of John Graham, who built the Dolls’ House and later journeyed across the Atlantic aboard RMS Baltic ship to America. Their pieces bring elements of his story to life in vibrant and imaginative ways. Other groups investigated what homes from the past may have looked like, crafting detailed items and furnishings from bygone eras. One class also celebrated the sporting history of Camlough, creating colourful and dynamic artworks that capture its community spirit and achievements.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Liz Madden, who kindly brought the Dolls’ House to school and inspired so much of the children’s learning; to Frances Hannaway for her invaluable guidance and encouragement; and to Lislea Men’s Shed, who generously built the impressive stadium featured in the exhibition.

Together, these contributions have helped create a vibrant, thoughtful, and memorable display. We are incredibly proud of the creativity and hard work shown by every pupil.
