Primary 1 have been developing their addition skills using the part–part–whole approach and the written method. The children took their learning outdoors, where they used natural materials to represent numbers.
By working practically, the children explored how numbers can be split into parts and then combined to make a whole. They enjoyed recording their thinking using simple written methods to show their calculations. Learning outdoors helped pupils to stay engaged, work collaboratively and deepen their understanding of addition in a fun and hands‑on way.
