๐ Sensing Autumn ๐
7th Nov 2025
We have been busy in P2a creating our very own autumn poems – and what a fantastic job the boys and girls have done!
Our work was inspired by Clare Devlin and Anne McErlane, who encourage children to explore the outdoors as a stimulus for writing. So, we headed outside to look closely at the signs of Autumn all around us.
We went on a little foraging adventure, gathering leaves, pine cones, conkers and acorns. We touched, looked, listened and smelled the world around us to help build rich, descriptive autumn vocabulary.
Next, we learned how to choose strong adjectives. We agreed that P1 words like big and nice were no longer for us — instead we used massive, gigantic, prickly, brittle, crunchy and colourful! Then we matched our adjectives with autumnal nouns to create descriptive phrases which formed our poems.
Each poem is unique, thoughtful and beautifully presented.
We are so proud of our hard work — just look at our wonderful display! ๐โจ
Well done, P2a! ๐
